Property Control is responsible for ensuring an accurate inventory of U-M’s capital equipment. Capital equipment is any equipment with an original cost of $5,000 or more and a useful life of one year or more.
As a part of Property Control’s ongoing effort to improve the asset inventory processes, the department partnered with HCA Asset Management to retag capital equipment with new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The new RFID technology reduces the administrative burden on departments that resulted from the biennial inventory.
The scope of the retagging effort included roughly 25,000 assets across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses. As of the end of October 2022, the retagging is over 95 percent complete and data should be loaded to the system by the end of the calendar year.
