People Pay
PeoplePay is U-M’s process to pay for services from individuals rather than businesses. It can also be used to pay individuals for honoraria and royalties as well as pay—or record—prizes, gifts, and awards. PeoplePay makes it simple to ensure that payments meet university requirements and IRS rules governing taxation.
PeoplePay transactions for payment of services to individuals are subject to all university procurement policies, including the competitive bid process, even though some transactions may be processed by U-M’s Payroll Department while others may be handled through the Shared Services Center.
The PeoplePay Decision Tool helps you pay a person for non-appointment-related items or services by asking simple questions to help you determine the correct process or form to use. For more information about PeoplePay, please visit the Shared Services Center website.
If the individual is a student, please review SPG 601.30 for reporting requirements to the Office of Financial Aid.
