The university’s contract with Xerox is based on cost per page with no separate equipment lease fees. Because print and copy volumes have dropped significantly across U-M, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become necessary for Xerox to add a $30 monthly fee to any device that is not running at least 1,000 pages per month (based on the quarterly average).
This fee is intended to cover the costs for maintenance and supplies that are provided by Xerox. If you are seeing the $30 fee, it is because you did not run at least 1,000 pages per month (average) for the months of April, May, and June (second quarter) You will now see the $30 monthly fee applied for July, August, and September. Xerox will then pull your third-quarter volumes and, if they are below an average of 1,000 pages per month, you will see the monthly $30 fee for October, November, and December. and so on.
We are encouraging customers to evaluate their printing needs to determine what device(s) are really needed and consolidate to fewer devices if possible to avoid the $30 fee. Additionally, Xerox has developed a Xerox Purchase Program for customers who are not running at least 1,000 pages per month, but still need a device. You are still covered for service and supplies, but will be exempt from the $30 fee, since you will own the device. If you want to have your print environment evaluated, please email Xerox and a company representative will contact you.
