About Us

Who we are. Procurement Services manages a diverse selection of goods and services used by the University of Michigan. We establish and handle all supplier relationships with the university and have signatory authority for all supplier contracts. We are committed to providing exemplary service to the university and to our suppliers, and to conducting U-M’s purchasing initiatives in an ethical and sustainable manner.

What we do. Procurement actively collaborates with U-M’s colleges, schools, and units to implement new ways to contain costs. Many aspects of the university-wide strategic sourcing program, for example, were developed in concert with unit-level purchasing experts from across the institution.

Strategic sourcing, which consolidates the university’s spend with select, high-quality suppliers, enabled the university to save at least $20 million in FY 2014 in 13 categories ranging from office supplies to computers to temporary administrative services. This process is a part of U-M’s overall cost-cutting efforts.

The department manages U-M’s purchasing card (PCard) program and its travel and expense system, Concur. Procurement Services also offers the university community a selection of key business services, including printing, copying, and mailing services, and property disposition.

The university’s Standard Practice Guide (SPG) on Procurement offers helpful information ranging from purchasing authority and strategic sourcing to ethics and compliance. You can also visit the news section, where you’ll find current and archived copies of the Procurement Services newsletter as well as information about upcoming events, and special discounts from our suppliers.

Getting started. Visit Find Products and Services section where you’ll find suppliers and commodities that offer everything from computers and office supplies to transportation services and catering. You can search suppliers by commodity and by type of business, including Michigan-based, green-product, and minority-owned. Our easy-to-use payment systems and the negotiated special university pricing structure means that ordering is cost-effective and simple—typically you can just use your department’s shortcode.

If you have any purchasing questions, need more information, or would like to offer a suggestion, please contact us. We welcome your feedback and look forward to hearing from you!
